King Solomon wrote 3000 proverbs and 1005 songs. He was an expert on all kinds of plants, trees, animals, birds, reptiles, and fish. The kings of the world heard about Solomon’s wisdom and sent people to Jerusalem to hear him speak.
The country of Sheba was about 1600 kilometers away from Jerusalem. Its people had also heard about the wisdom God had given Solomon. Therefore, the Queen of Sheba came all the way from Sheba to test Solomon’s wisdom with tough questions. She wanted to see for herself if Solomon was as wise as people were saying he was. Solomon answered every single question she asked. There was nothing he did not understand or was unable to answer. The Queen of Sheba gave Solomon four and a half tons of gold and plenty of spices and expensive gems.
Solomon did not ask God for riches or for a long life. Nor did he ask for the lives of his enemies. He only asked for a discerning heart to judge the people because he cared for their needs. Because of this, God was pleased with Solomon. The Giver of all good things not only gave Solomon the wisdom he had asked for, but also riches and fame to go with it.
Those who trust in the LORD will not lack anything.
