1 Samuel 17 : 48-49
Size: 38×47cm
Material: silk thread
The Israelites camped at Elah Valley and got ready to go to war with the Philistines.
A giant came out from the Philistines’ camp. His name was Goliath. He dared the Israelites to fight him. “Come out, you good-for-nothing Israelites! Send someone out to fight with me, one on one. If he kills me, we'll be your slaves. If I kill him, you’ll be our slaves!” Goliath boasted at the top of his lungs. The Israelite soldiers were terrified and the army morale hit rock bottom. No one dared to take on Goliath’s challenge.
Young David picked up his shepherd’s staff, his sling, and five small and smooth stones and stepped up to the front bravely. He told Goliath, “You come to fight me with sword and spear and dagger. But I come to fight you in the name of the LORD All-Powerful.” Then, David put a stone on his sling and shot it. The stone hit Goliath square in the forehead. Goliath fell facedown to the ground.
Fear is our worst enemy. It often forces us to surrender without a fight. Therefore, our worst enemy is often ourselves. Who can take away the fear in our hearts? Who can cast away discouragement? The only way out is to rely on the Lord. God’s love endures forever and the Lord gladly helps us.
