Material: silk thread
When the Israelites saw that Moses was taking forever in coming down from the mountain, they rallied around Aaron. “Make gods for us,” they said. “ Who knows what has happened to Moses?”
Because Aaron was very timid, he did what the people asked of him. Aaron, a priest of God, allowed the people to make a golden calf!
“Go down the mountain,” God told Moses. “The people have committed an awful sin. They have forgotten how I had delivered them from Egypt.” God also said, “I sense that this is a stubborn, hard-headed people. Let Me have My way, now, I’m going to incinerate all of them. But I'll make a great nation out of you.”
When Moses approached the assembly, he saw the golden calf and the people dancing around it and his anger flared. He threw down the tablets of stone at the foot of the mountain and they smashed into pieces. Then, he melted the golden calf with fire, pulverized it to powder, scattered it on the water, and forced the Israelites to drink it.
Despite his fury, Moses pled for the people before God. He was willing to give up his life to save theirs. The greatest way to show love for friends is to die for them.
The attractiveness of a leader is not found in the person’s God-given position and power. Rather, it is found in the enduring sacrificial love and patience that this leader demonstrates towards everyone.
