Jacob loved Joseph more than all his other sons.
From the time he was young, Joseph basked in his father’s affection. He divulged all the wrongdoings of his brothers to his father and took on the role of a whistle-blower. Joseph was a smart kid and he often took advantage of his father’s love. He seemed unaware of his brothers’ jealousy, which grew stronger by the day.
Joseph had a dream one day. He dreamed that his brothers’ bundles of wheat gathered around his bundle and bowed down to it. He told his brothers about this dream and they hated him more for it.
Sometime later, Joseph had another dream. He told his brothers about it again, “Look! I had another dream. In the dream, I saw the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowing down to me.” This time around, even Jacob reprimanded Joseph. However, Jacob brooded over this incident in his heart for a long time.
Joseph was a man chosen by God. However, he was not perfect and his character was not flawless. Young Joseph was reckless and arrogant. He did not feel that there was anything wrong in honestly telling his family about his dreams. However, honesty devoid of wisdom and humility is often egotistic. Beneath this type of honesty often hides a selfish and boastful heart.
The people chosen by God are never perfect, but they are attentive to God’s words and willing to obey their Lord.
