19 .#Jacob deceived his father
Genesis 27 : 15-16, 23
Size: 38×47cm
Material: silk thread
Rebekah gave birth to twins and named them Esau and Jacob. Esau was an avid hunter and an outdoorsman. Jacob was a quiet man preferring life inside the tents. Isaac loved Esau because he loved his game and the hearty meals they shared, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
Under Rebekah’s persuasion, Jacob disguised himself as Esau, lied to his father, and stole Esau's first-born blessing.
Jacob was indeed the one God had chosen. At first glance, Rebekah’s actions seem to help speed up God’s plans and fulfill the promises God had made earlier. However, a lie is a lie no matter how valid the reason for lying may be. Because of their actions, Rebekah had to endure the agony of being separated from her son and Jacob had to leave home and face the challenges of life in the desert.
Humans often like to do as they please. They think that they are helping God when the truth of the matter is that they are merely using God as a pretext for gratifying their own selfish agendas.
In spite of this, God is still in control. Our Redeemer is able to turn the tragic consequences of sinful human behavior into something beautiful and good.
