There was a famine in Canaan. Isaac set out for Gerar because he wanted to go to Egypt.
God appeared to Isaac and said, “Don’t go down to Egypt. You must live in the land I am going to show you. If you settle in this land, I will be with you and I will bless you. If you obey My laws and commands, I will multiply your descendants to be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Furthermore, all the nations of the earth will be blessed through your descendants.” Hence, Isaac settled in Gerar.
When we are hungry, our empty stomachs will make loud noises. When we are thirsty, our tongues will lick our parched lips. When encountering danger, our survival instincts will push us to do everything in our power to thwart danger and turn things around without a second thought.
However, God cannot bear letting humanity act recklessly. God knows that our decisions often are not life-preserving nor wise. Our faithful Savior knows that we often act on the impulse of the moment and that we are shortsighted. In critical moments, our Savior will stoop down to us from heaven and intervene on our behalf in our daily lives to turn the situation around.
God intervened in Isaac’s life. Isaac submitted to God and enjoyed a peaceful and blessed life as a result of his obedience.
