At nightfall, the dark-blue sky begins to twinkle as countless stars appear. The waves crash onto the shore, bringing countless grains of sand with them. These scenes bring to mind an age-old story in Genesis.
Abram was 75 years old that year. God had promised him that all nations would be blessed through him. God told Abram to leave Haran and journey to an unknown land. Out of sheer faith in God, Abram began his journey.
That year, God appeared to Abram in a vision and said, “Don’t be afraid, Abram. I am your shield. Your reward will be grand! Look at the sky. Try counting the stars. Can you do it? Your descendants will be as numerous as the stars.”
Abram(also known as Abraham) believed God. God called Abraham righteous because he believed. Abraham’s faith made him right with God. Because of faith, human beings are called righteous for they are considered sinless, good, and without blemish before God.
What is faith? Faith without basis is as good as daydreaming. Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see because we believe the One making those promises.
Abraham believed that what God had promised God would accomplish. There was no shadow of turning in the divine. God would accomplish everything according to God’s own timing.
Abraham was one hundred years old that year. His wife, Sarah, was ninety-one years old. They gave birth to a son and named him Isaac.
