Why does Jesus often use sheep to describe his followers? Sheep are group animals, the most gentle kind. But the characteristic of the sheep is that it has "myopia", it is sticky to the rules, and often goes its own way.
Therefore, sheep need the careful care and constant supervision and guidance of a good shepherd in order to grow up healthily. "We are all like sheep going astray, each of us has turned to our own way." (Isaiah 53:6)
Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd, and the good shepherd lay down his life for the sheep." (John 10:11)
